Lynette Brasfield

Welcome

Ghostwriter and novelist Lynette Brasfield is the author of Booksense selection NATURE LESSONS: A NOVEL (St. Martin’s Press, NY), which reads as a cross between a memoir and a mystery. Publishers Weekly praised it as “thought-provoking...complex and intriguing” and Booklist described it as “a gripping first novel...part mystery, part dark family comedy, and part harsh political realism.” The novel won NAMI’s Award for Outstanding Literature and was named a Poets and Writers Notable Book.

A former PR professional and journalist, she’s just completed her second book, a literary mystery entitled A CONFUSION OF STARS, which author Caroline Leavitt calls “masterfully done--moving, funny, and heartbreaking.”

Lynette also offers ghostwriting services for individuals, corporations, and publishing houses, from memoirs to nonfiction on a variety of subjects including travel, healthcare, psychology, and natural history.

As your ghostwriter, Lynette will capture the essence of your life—a biography of you—for future generations of your family to cherish. Family histories also make great gifts for parents and loved ones.

Lynette is organized, creative, and a quick study, someone who delights in hearing about one-of-a-kind experiences and writing about them in lively, readable prose.

In the past she served as a senior consultant and VP at Nelson Communications Group, providing strategic and creative counsel to national healthcare clients and educational institutions, as well as to a grassroots group called, believe it or not, Beer Drinkers of America. At Hill and Knowlton, she worked on the “Got Milk?” campaign.

In addition to writing press releases, annual reports, brochures and ads, she ghostwrote articles and speeches for CEOs and Medical Directors.

Recently, Lynette has taught fiction in private workshops and at Cal State Fullerton, and she’s spoken at events including the Mental Health Association’s annual Meeting of the Minds, the Southern California and Santa Barbara Writers Conferences, West Hollywood Book Fair, American Business Women’s Association, and AAUW Author Luncheons.

Her articles on writers and writing, including "What’s Your Story?", "Literature for Lunch", and "Masters of Suspense" have appeared in publications such as Orange Coast Magazine. She’s a member of the Authors Guild and PEN West, and a former Board member of Mystery Writers of America, Southern California.

Born in South Africa, Lynette attended Rhodes University and later the University of Natal, earning a post-graduate degree in English Literature.

Now an American citizen, she feels fortunate to have visited many countries, including her favorites Ecuador, Scotland, Tanzania, New Zealand, England, and Costa Rica.

She loves wildlife, unusual people, strange facts, pubs, history, yoga, good food and wine, bagels and lox, gorgeous art, the color blue, reading, hiking, and landscapes, but she is not much into cathedrals or dude ranches, and is far too uncoordinated to dance or play golf.

Her grown sons live on the East Coast, which gives her and her husband, Bill, a perfect excuse to visit New York and Boston. All three “men in her boat” have brought great happiness to her life.
